Early on I discovered that the most enjoyable children’s images were not the smiling or posed shots, but rather the ones with frowns, cries, expressions of frustration and excited looks of wonder. Grouping multiple images of three or more of these expressions creates a unique personality series and freezes that age in time. In order to capture these expressions I shoot a lot of images, but time is cheap compared to losing a certain look that may disappear in two weeks when a baby enters a new development phase.

I never ask a child to do anything that they’re not developmentally ready to do. I use sensory integration, a technique that explores how the senses develop, to successfully pull out a child’s true personality. By using items and behaviors that appeal to the child based on their stage of development, I have great success with my young clients.
